Charles W. Rice
Charles “Chuck” Rice served the Colorado and national softball community as ASA State Commissioner from 1980 until he retired in January 2005. What started out as a gentleman’s agreement to “stand in” until a replacement would be found, Chuck reluctantly accepted the full time position he held for 25 years. In 1980, Colorado had approximately 80 teams and 125 umpires. In the 1990Õs, registrations reached a peak of 2,000 teams and 1,000 umpires. Under Chuck’s guidance, Colorado has hosted 15 national tournaments, an ASA national convention, two US Olympic Festivals and numerous regional and state qualifying tournaments. He served on ASA National committees nearly every year since 1980, including seven years as the Men’s and Boy’s National Team Selection Committee chairman. Chuck founded the Colorado Softball Hall of Fame/Honor and the Colorado ASA JO Scholarship Fund. |
